Full disclosure of fees and commissions is never a given

In this issue of Smart Property Investment Magazine (SPI Magazine), Ben Kingsley emphasizes that not all property ‘experts’ are bound by a code of conduct. This is escalated when we take into account that the property investment industry is not as heavily regulated as other financial products. For example, when an operator who recommends a property does not charge you a fee but is instead paid by a builder/developer for introducing a client, it creates an inclination to make out the sale rather than focusing on your rental returns. This clearly indicates the lack of a regulation towards a property advisor’s full disclosure of fees and commissions which if practiced, would ensure the protection of the consumer/investor’s financial position.
